How they use Nebius AI Cloud
Nebius identified Utrecht University as a Research credits participant using its compute in April 2025. The university's project analyzes biological data, including DNA methylation and mRNA information, to find biomarkers for diagnosing and predicting diseases. The work includes finding patterns and validating the findings.
Nebius Science reported in June 2026 that Nebius Academy supported Utrecht University's QuadraSHAP research. Researchers from two life sciences groups wanted to explain model predictions on samples containing thousands of protein readings. QuadraSHAP uses Gauss-Legendre quadrature to calculate Shapley values up to floating-point precision. The feature reported speeds three to five times faster than the standard SHAP library on tree ensembles, with numerical stability on deep forests. For kernels, it reported speedups of 25 times at 500 features and 95 times at 1,000. Beyond 2,000 features, the previous best method timed out while QuadraSHAP finished in seconds. The team plans to test extensions beyond trees and kernels, including recurrent architectures and biological applications.
Nebius also named Utrecht University among its Research Grants participants in August 2026. Separately, Utrecht researcher Pavel Sinitcyn served on the judging committee for Nebius's inaugural AI Discovery Awards.
