How they use Tavily
OpenHands uses Tavily for web search in its coding agents. Its documentation identifies Tavily as the default search engine in OpenHands Cloud. When an agent needs external information, queries go through Tavily’s API and MCP server. Search results enter the agent’s context. Co-founder Graham Neubig says Tavily has been OpenHands’ default search engine for over a year. Self-hosted users can configure their Tavily key in Settings > LLM or through search_api_key in the configuration file for headless and CLI use.
OpenHands also reported adding Tavily research tools to OpenHands-Versa alongside multimodal browsing and file access. The combined agent achieved reported leading results on five of eight benchmarks. Separately, Nebius names OpenHands as a coding-agent partner in its AI Builder Program.
OpenHands announced an enterprise integration update that proxies Tavily MCP connections through the app server for security controls and monitoring.
